Moshpits
October 30, 2008
It’s starting to worry me and make me ponder with frustration that I will never feel happy going into a moshpit again. It’s because every time I start moshing, I immediately get put off by these new ‘hardcore moshers’ who think they are the king of moshers. They think punching, kicking and whatever kungfu stunts they pull is moshing. Well, bros, I’m sorry to prove you wrong but… you’re wrong!
It’s not because I got hit in the eye, that was nothing, but honestly, what’s moshing becoming? People have turned what was once spontaneous movements to vent emotions into something that intentionally hurts people. That’s just sick. Moshing isn’t about hurting, moshing is about elation. It’s about enjoying, not worrying that any second someone’s foot is going to get in contact with your neck. Plus, how do you make flailing your arms and legs around look anything less than retarded? Honestly.
If you get hurt by accident in a moshpit, that’s normal, because the movement sometimes can impact hugely on your body, causing you to fall, get stepped on, or your shoe might come off. Whatever. But in between all these, people watch out for you, they pick you up when you fall, they make sure no one tramples on you when you’re lying on the floor. That sort of thing.
But now? We get people purposely hitting, punching, kicking each other, taking up MASSIVE space in the moshpit, and doing some ridiculous ninja routine. Come on. Stop being so inconsiderate guys. It’s obvious that this “hardcore” shit is being hated by loads of people, especially those from the old rock gods’ times. You want them to look at our generation and go “What bullshit has rock n roll become?” Seriously. This isn’t a Bruce Lee competition. This is a concert. Keep it real.
For music’s sake, and for all of ours.

Kami Raya/Youngsters Rock N Roll
October 24, 2008
11th October. Two gigs. One heck of a good time.

After a chillout at Deepti’s place, I took an LRT from Bangsar and went straight to Pasar Seni where I followed the music to where the stage was. Found Kolep and gang setting up the Durjana booth beneath the tents, and helped them for a while. Monisha, supposedly supposed to accompany me, decides to bail out because of her parents’ disapproval, which only left Trett to come along and witness the KL gigs for the first time in his life. And oh boy, did he not regret it!

Missed out on Couple’s performance, which was stupid. But I did manage to snap a few faraway-cannot-see-a-thing pictures. I found Aidil and went O.T.T on it, which just got him laughing. Followed by Couple’s performance was Love Me Butch, which I COULD NOT MOSH TO because I was waiting for Trett to arrive so someone could accompany me into the moshpit. GOSH Trett! Chilled with Kolep and sang along to LMB from where we stood, and bumped into the three girls I had met at MCPA during Escape The Flock. Exchanged numbers with one of them, hee. So Trett arrives to the sound of The Aggrobeats, who made me want to get up on one of the parked cars and skank above it.
Kolep was really friendly to Trett (aww!) who was feeling slightly awkward. Why? He’s the only white guy. He’s tall, so he can’t hide. So he’s like SO obvious. But EVERYONE kept asking if we were siblings or cousins… WHYYY!? In the crowds, by the booths, in MCPA, the bands we chilled with… WHYY?!

Followed by the Aggrobeats were The Times! Absolutely awesome performance by them. I went into the crowd with Trett and Nad. Trett got into the groove so quickly, and we were both moshing senseless. Poor Nad was so unprotected, but she soon found her knight in shining armor - some guy in a songkok who stood behind her the whole time protecting her from getting trampled on. Aww. XD
Me: Siape tu?
Nad: I pon tatau!
Me: BAHHAHHAHA
The Times performed awesome tunes, but I kind of forgot what they were? I was too lightheaded to remember… Woah…
After the exhausting workout - LOL - we went into CM to grab some drinks at the foodcourt. Grace calls and says she was going to head to CM once she’s settled at the hotel. And Faiz FortyWinks calls to say he’s already at CM and ready to talk about the gig at Singapore. So yeah, that was artist 1 that I chilled with that day. It was a really funny chillout session though, we kept getting distracted by everything. AND he thought Trett was my brother.
Faiz: So, about the bus ticket just let me know…
Me: Okay… Ooh, I like this song!!! *cocks my head towards the speakers* (Aliff Aziz’s ‘Sayang2′ was playing)
Faiz:… You’ve got A.D.D man.
Me: WHAT!?
Faiz: Yeah… you get distracted easily… bahahaha hey it’s a cool thing to have.
It was a pity Grace didn’t arrive in time to chat with him about the gig. Oh well, he told me I already settled everything they needed to know anyway.
And he was so touched by the fact that I was listening to Forty Winks while doing my homework.
Faiz: It’s so…. educational!
Me: What the hell!?
Faiz: Yeah, doesn’t really make sense.
Oh did I mention Nad was all torn up when she found out Trett was 3 years younger than her? HAHHAHHA, kantoi.
Walked out of CM to find Meet Uncle Hussain already performing! I almost screamed in shock, and dashed towards to booth to dump our wallets to Kolep, and ran to the crowd, jumping to “Halusinasi” at the same time. Lan, why don’t you play the guitar anymore?
Moshed like CRAZY. Made friends with one guy - Arol, Arol!
- in the audience. He, too, thought Trett was my brother. What the… ANYWAY. Meet Uncle Hussain played “Halusinasi”, followed by “Pari-pari”, “Balik Kampong” (yes, the old classic), and “Lagu Untukmu”. When we sat down for the pause because Lan needed to pee or something like that, I realized we’d missed Lalala Kerjalah. DAMN IT. Trett really liked M.U.H. Whoo!
After MUH, Bittersweet were next, and holy hell, they were good. They. Were. Good. They performed… wait let me register it in my head first… they performed “Burn Berlin Down”, “Kucing Hitam”, “Capital E” and … some other song, holy crap I forgot. I think it was a song we didn’t know. Some raya song I think. We walked out on that one, because Grace had arrived. I went to meet up with her and suggested her to speak to Pijie Bittersweet. Went to find him (artist 2!), only to get him telling me to head over to MCPA because they were performing there, too. Sigh. So Trett and I went to grab some drinks with Grace and Francis, and Francis followed us to MCPA to catch the next gig. Awesome shit, man.

We walked in and the new bassist of Bittersweet - didn’t catch his name! - told us Pijie was upstairs. Went upstairs, and Pijie said we’ll talk after the show. So we enter the hall and are greeted by Deserters playing. They were goood. When we went to grab some drinks after They Will Kill Us All, whom we MOSHED LIKE CRAZY TO!, Trett and I bought ourselves the Deserters CD. Cooool… David from TWKUA was so pissed off at his guitar issues when setting up he swore so many times it was funny. I loved the bit when Fizul was singing “But I don’t know youuu!” and like bent down until our faces were quite close and I sang along in such a hyper way he went back up laughing. Hahaha.

Went back upstairs and chilled, watching Bittersweet set up was probably the funniest thing ever. They were all half dead. Herri looked as though he was completely clueless to whatever was going on. When they were about to start, he puts up his hand and says there’s no sound coming from his mic. The technicians all checked and found nothing wrong….. until someone came up to the mic and switched it on. LMAO! Everyone burst out laughing like crazy. That was an awesome moment, right there. Trett was thrilled to watch B.sweet for a second time, and damn he could not stop moshing. I placed my water bottle under the steps in front of the stage, which later on when I took them out, two mates of Pijie beside me were like “Oh my god! Effective!” as if what I did was completely ingenious. Hahaha.
Bittersweet performed “Burn Berlin Down”, “Simone”, “Capital E”, “Get It On” and “Kuching Hitam”. Pijie was so limp, he was falling all over the place, and when he jumped into the crowd he seemed to lose all balance and control of his muscles. Woah… crazy, crazy, crazy performances!

Later on, Azam tells me he had no idea my moshing was so fierce. He was there at MCPA (I couldn’t meet him at CM because I was in the crowds with Trett - he’s leaving the next day, so I felt like I should show him as much of the gigs as possible) and was shocked when he saw me turn up. So while Francis discusses things with Bittersweet’s manager/friend, I was in the hall having a blast. Man, I should organize gigs more often. ![]()
After Bittersweet, we walked down to get another bottle of water, and were almost falling down the stairs. OH MY GOD THAT REMINDS ME! I kept falling UP the stairs! ARGH! Trett was tormenting me with the memory every now and then. I tripped up the stairs walking out of the monorail station, and twice I tripped going up to the hall at MCPA. It was my shoe, Trett, NOT me. xD

Bumped into Amir TWKUA (Artist 3!!!) who was surprised to see me at MCPA (I could never make it to a lot of TWKUA gigs), and we had a cool lepak, with him telling me the lack of response from their Myspace was not ignorance but merely due to busy times. So the good news is they might make it on the Singapore band list! WHOO! Oh, he thought Trett was my cousin. -_- Went back up to the hall to check out The Great Spy Experiment (a singaporean guest band) and Amir intro-ed me to the rest of TWKUA. Went into the crowd to dance to GSE, the crowd was dead, went back to the side of the stage where Amir was.
Me: You like them?
Amir: Oh yeah, they’re mad. They are way better than us.
Me: You can’t compare! You guys are different! Different sound, different awesome!
Amir: True…
Heehee. I gain good karma for that. LMAO.

So what do I think of GSE? They are GOOD, that’s definite, but I found some of their tunes very mainstream. And the vocalist’s voice didn’t really make a presence, unlike Fizul TWKUA, who was… THERE. Oh wait, I’m not supposed to compare. ![]()
ANYWAY, I find Pijie saying bye to everyone, and he pulls me into the room behind the stage to discuss on what Francis was saying due to continuous ‘huh’s because we couldn’t hear each other. Loud music + half deaf = pointless conversation.
Pijie: (after all discussion) Okay… oh i check your myspace… you memang 15 years old ke!?
Me: 16! My birthday just passed!
Pijie: Whatttt!
Herri: *walks in* Hello, nice to meet you… sorry my voice dah hilang la…
Me: It’s okay…
Pijie: She’s 15
Me: 16!
Herri: Yeah ke? Wow, tak cam… 15?
Me: 16!!!!!! BAHH!!!
Walk out to where Trett was stood, and we decide to leave a few songs before GSE calls it a night. So we grabbed our stuff… well, MY stuff, and exited the hall. Decided to stop at the mamak outside MCPA first, and ordered milo ais. Trett was amazed, impressed, awed by this side of KL he has never seen. It was a whole new culture for him, and was so pissed that Australia never have mini gigs like these. Well, like I said, you don’t need to get drunk and kiss random girls to have fun
HAHA, he agreed though. And we made a pact to go to a gig every time he comes back to KL.
As we sat at the mamak, Herri and B.Sweet’s manager went to another table, and Herri started talking to me (he thought I was Singaporean, ew) so they shifted to chill with us on our table. Then Emai and gang joins along with Pijie, who plops comfortably beside me, only to get me to steal his infamous shades. He thought Trett and I were related. xD Surprise, surprise.
Pijie: So you guys are… cousins? Siblings?
Me: He’s my brother.
Pijie: Oh!
Me: No la, kawan je.
Pijie: *confused*…what… OH! Eh, you guys are mixed, that’s why you look alike!
Me: *turns to Trett* aww, abang!
Trett: Hey I know what that means! See, I’m catching up!
Me: Yeah…what words DO you know? Tapi… Abang… milo ais… dua..
Trett: Tiga!
Me: Wow.
Herri, Emai & Pijie (they were the only ones listening to us): LOL!
Trett: Well, next time I’ll be able to speak more Malay!
Me: Yeah, what, recite lyrics from the albums? *puts on Pijie’s shades again & recites Kucing Hitam*
Pijie: LOL
Me: *turns to him* Your shades senget sikit la.
Pijie: I know…
Do you realize Pijie looks like he’s grinning 24/7? Even Trett mentioned it! He was like “That guy’s such a rockstar… with those grins that’s constantly on his face!”
Herri was so damn sweet when he placed 4 Bittersweet CD’s on the table for me to have and give to friends. So damn sweet. Trett was so pleased to get another CD in his new Malaysian music collection, LMAO. Oh, by the way, HAHA TRETT YOU ALMOST SPILLED YOUR MILO AIS THAT’S WHAT YOU GET FOR LAUGHING WHEN I TRIPPED! Oh, and I hope I didn’t make it that obvious that I’m not a big OBS fan…
Pijie: One Buck Short ade pergi Singapore jugak ke?
Me: Errrrr….. no….
Herri: *looks at my expression*… why?
Me: Coz…? *ahem*
HAHAHA then I went into a rant about mainstream people who have so many people who know them already and I want the indie, indie, bands. Wait, I actually said that because Herri mentioned something about them not being signed by EMI, and I was like “I wouldn’t have invited you guys if you guys were signed by EMI, because I’m looking for indie, indie bands!”
Pijie was like “Aha… :)”
Finally, we left the table and walked up the stairs to the overhead bridge to cross the road, and I swore, realizing we could’ve just taken the stairs that led to the monorail station. So we walk back down and walked towards the other stairs. I froze. Turned to Trett. “We didn’t pay for our drinks dude.” We just burst out laughing and spent 2 minutes debating on whether we should just SMS Pijie and get him to pay (rude la!) or if we should turn back. We turned back hahaha, and made complete fools of ourselves. Walked back to the mamak and the guys from our table were like ‘???’ and I go “We forgot to pay”. Everyone started laughing and Trett was like “God, that was embarrassing!”
Walked up to the stairs of the monorail station - realize its CLOSED, so we walked down again to catch a cab. Dude, just picture it. Whole day of moshing. Toes stepped on, leg muscles screaming, and we had to walk up so many steps! ARGH it was so annoying. Luckily we got ourselves a really nice taxi driver who only charged us RM30 to send us to Bangsar and Mont Kiara. Laughed when Trett walks out of the taxi, goes to the sidewalk and trips. Last thing I see of him is his ’shut up’ face and a middle finger. HAHAHA!
KAMI the Movie - A thorough review
October 6, 2008
The Movie: What I thought of it.
Teenagers. Secrets. Music. Life. Kuala Lumpur and it’s many lifestyles. This was a movie everyone could relate to. Yeah, so what if the actors were way older than their given ages in the movie, it was worth watching, definitely. I liked the way they showed how so many different people could still share same interests. Loved the way everything connected to each other. Enjoyed it a lot. It made you sad, made you angry, made you laugh until you’re in stitches. Made you think. You feel like you’re not watching a movie, but just life itself. A life that any of us could possibly live, because it’s so close to how we are now anyway. Makes me look at any stranger, or friend, and think, is there something they’ve been hiding since the beginning?
The Characters:
Ali - Played by Syarul Ezani

This character was like the Harry Potter of the movie. One of the more dramatic ones. You know. Pretty boy, temperamental, is a hero at some point. Unlike Harry Potter however, this guy doesn’t pop into my head as a ‘nuisance’, but more like a troubled soul, which he obviously is. His secret? He used to do drugs. And is still tempted. And does get tempted. But does he fall for it again? Watch for yourself lah kan. Also, he reads the indie mag “KAMI” which is written by Lynn, though no one knows it’s her. Who’s Lynn? Read on. Also, he is a guitarist of a band, but he’s got this crazy stage fright, that causes him to restrain from becoming a vocalist, too.
At the end of the series, his mother leaves the dad, his sister leaves the house and he quits drugs as a promise to Abu. Who’s Abu? Hold your pants, I’m getting there!
As an actor, I feel like Syarul managed to connect with the character later on in the whole process of filming. I found his acting quite rigid and unnatural in the first few series of Kami, but by the time the movie came out, he was Ali. He was Ali.
Liyana plays the kampong awek, Lyn, who suddenly moves to KL. Secret? Well, the primary one is that she is the writer of the mag “KAMI” of which she writes under the name of TekaTeki. When she criticizes Ali’s band in Junk Magazine, she has to desperately stay undercover even more than usual. Secondly, she was involved with drug dealing, desperate to earn some cash, and taste excitement. When her mother found out, they moved away from the kmpg. When you think about it, this begins to show some connection between her and Ali. In the movie, her worst nightmare returns when the drug dealer, Boy, shows up in KL, and starts to get himself involved with her friends (Abu, Ali, Sofi and Adii). What happens and how does she solve it? Tengok la filem!
As an actress? Liyana’s good! But she’s very amateur but strangely, it’s acceptable. It’s obvious she’s not been acting before, but in a way it blends perfectly with her character; insecure and kind of fidgety. She did a good job portraying Lyn, definitely.
Comel, kan? This is Abu. The joker, the rebel, the rough, loud and carefree boy. The one who’s always ready to make everyone laugh, even during the worst moments. So what’s the dark side? He can never live up to his dad’s expectations. He runs away from the juvenile school and lies about it to his friends so they don’t need to worry. He fights. He steals. He lies. But you cannot NOT love Abu. My favourite character of the whole show, definitely. He has a brother who was murdered while waiting for his internet lover to show up near a bus stop. This however, is shown in the series, not the movie. Abu has a soft spot for Lyn, and finds out about her TekaTeki identity, as well as realizing who his brother’s internet lover really is. Hint, hint, Abu makes the movie extremely sad in the end.
Nas-T? Ah, he’s a natural, really. He plays the character extremely well, knowing when to be cheeky and when to be menacing and when to show a weak side of himself. He portrays a lost boy perfectly, and I cannot think of any other actor who can make himself look 7 years younger as well as him. xD
Adii. The bubbly, optimistic, supportive friend. The sad part? She can’t find her other half. Ever. Why? Because he’s dead and she has no idea about it. Yup. Adii’s online lover is the brother of Abu. Those of you who didn’t watch the series and were intending on watching the movie, sorry I might’ve just ruined it for you. Adii is Ali’s cousin, and though they don’t show her parents in the movie, she had trouble trying to keep up with her mother’s deafness in the series, which was quite moving at points.
As an actress, I feel she did a pretty good job. Ani was extremely Adii; sporty, not entirely girly but not rough either. With the short hair and sassy look, she was my favourite girl character of the movie.
Sofie - Played by Juliana Evans

So typical, isn’t it? Always put in a rich, pretty girl. Sofie. The girl who has it all but not enough. She seeks for love, not material. Closest to Adii, she falls for her cousin, Ali, so cliché, and surprise, surprise, he falls for her, too, but oh, THANK GOD, they don’t do that whole ‘let’s just get them to end up together for a happy ending’. Her mother has this phobia of being alone, so Sofie has to face the pressure of trying to get her mom to let her go.
Juliana, to me, seemed uncomfortable 3/4 of the time. I have no idea why, maybe it’s the character she plays, of just the way she is. She definitely did fit Sofie’s character, though. But Sofie was my least favourite character out of the five, and part of it was due to the acting as well. Ah well.
So what’s the wow-factor?
The story flowed easily, and secrets didn’t reveal all at once. Each character had moments to really portray what they were all about and I found this particularly good. There wasn’t a moment where I went ‘What?’ during the entire film. There was anticipation ringing in the cinema hall, where for a second everyone was thinking “oh my god, oh my god, he’s going to find out, oh my god!”
Not so wows?
Next time, they should find better supporting characters. Sure they did not matter that much, but still, the people who played Ali and Sofie’s mom, Abu’s dad, and the drug dealer who worked with Boy… DUDE. Honestly. My favourite supporting character was definitely Boy, he played well as the villain, and as this film was his debut as an actor, he sure did a good job to promote himself. But honestly… the supporting characters… no wows from here. Another good supporting actor was Pak Din, the gatekeeper of Abu’s juvenile school.
One thing I really loved from the movie were the scenes when no dialogue passed, like when Ali continuously punches the back of his car, while Lyn sits inside holding Abu, crying. And when she falls to the floor against the car later on. The part when Ali and Lyn look at each other, both caught doing the thing no one was meant to know (find out what yourself!).
Ahhh, KAMI. It was good. Real good. Not a WOW WOW WOW movie, but it was… gooood….

Movies, movies, movies!
September 15, 2008
1. One that made you laugh.
– Steve Carrell’s movies! Get Smart, 40-Year Old Virgin, Bruce Almighty.
I still detest myself for not having been able to watch Evan Almighty yet! This guy is a genius, I used to love watching Jim Carrey stuff but now it’s this guy that cracks me up. How many actors are able to do what he does; keep a straight, goddamnbloodyserious expression and say the most stupidest, hilarious thing? Not many. I almost pissed my pants watching 40-year-old virgin, especially when he was decribing how boobs felt like bags of sand. HAHAHA. Still laughing at the thought.
Actually, a LOT of movies make me laugh, but I can’t exactly write them all down here, can I? White Chicks and Benchwarmers are on the list, too by the way!
2. One that made you cry
–Artificial Intelligence
I’m not going to talk about those romantic movies, because those movies obviously are known to make people cry. So instead, I’m going to talk about A.I. Good god, this boy is an awesome actor! A little bit older than he was in The 6th Sense, he stars as a robot who learns to live with the parents of a comatic boy. The mother is cold to him at first, unable to adjust to the awkward movements of the robot-boy, but slowly, he learns to feel, and learns to love. However, he is framed for being a danger to the real son who comes back home, and is sent away by his mother to the robot dump. I also love this movie because Jude Law (sexay sexay) stars as the playboy robot who helps the boy find his way back to his mother. I loved the ending so much, how he managed to wish for his mother to be with him for one more day, and how he managed to sleep, and for the first time, dream, like a real boy. Oh gawsh!
3. One movie you loved when you were a child.
– The Wizard of Oz
Ooh, I loved it! I watched it almost every day, along with Sleeping Beauty! xD But I remembered how I used to be terrified of the munchkins momentarily, and got all creeped out. I loved Toto, and the Scarecrow the best heehee.
Follow the yellow brick road! There’s no place like home! The wicked witch is dead! Wheee! Ahh, memories…
4. One you’ve seen more than once.
– Too many, too many! ARGH!
5. One you loved but were embarrassed to admit it.
– None, I ain’t embarrassed to admit any movie I loved!
6. One you hated.
– Lions for Lamb
WHAT THE SHIT WAS THAT GAY MOVIE ABOUT!???!!!! ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!! It ended with me and my mother completely BORED out of our WITS and PISSED. What a waste of friggin’ 20bucks! Sure, sure it goes all detailed and stuff about the war and American issues but HONESTLY? The only bit I enjoyed was the touching moment of the two best friends dying together, but even that was obviously added to give a cliché touch to the film. Booorrringgg! Do NOT watch that man… Tom Cruise… Never liked him anyway.
7. One that scared you
– The Eye 2
It didn’t so much make me go “ARGH!!” but more like “Woah…”, you know? It was very thought-provoking, the whole idea of people your life had affected might return to you once they have died, and form a life within you and everything… Very, very intriguing. Reincarnation and karma, all these things I’m usually very interested in, being a Buddhist, and well, this movie just fit neatly into my hands. Creepy at parts, especially the bit when the Shu Qi realizes the man she thought was a lady’s husband was actually… not there. And when the lady gives birth, she sees the same scar on the baby’s face as she had seen on the spirit’s and the lady had said “My baby even has the same birth mark as my father…” It was like… BAM. Really nice. Weird and freakish, the way Shu Qi commits suicide over and over and she still doesn’t die because the ghost of the lady her husband had an affair with was begging her to let her in to become her child. Cool movie, this.
8. One that bored you
– That movie my dad made me watch with him in the cinema. How many people were in the room? Like… 5…. It’s so boring I don’t even remember the name. -_-
9. One that made you happy.
– Les Choristes
Ahhh, when it comes to ‘movies that gives you the tingles in your tummy’, it’s THIS one! Sweet, and filled with lovely music, with very good morals behind the story, I absolutely loved the way I always stare at the credits thinking back on the way the kids threw paper planes out the window of their classroom as their music teacher left the school, thanking him, and singing the songs he had taught them. Argh, so heart-wrenching. Really makes me smile.
10. One that made you miserable
– Control
A movie on Ian Curtis. Enough said?
11. One movie you weren’t brave enough to see
– I forgot… really…
12. One movie character you’ve fallen in love with
Call me a freak, call me a weirdo, I will say…. Sweeney Todd. HAHA! I know, I know, he’s a maniac who came from hell sent to kill all the men, but hey he was once a man so passionately in love. So in love, he could kill men after men because of what they had done to his wife. Creepy, but one hell of a romantic, no?
13. The last movie you saw
In the cinemas, it was WALL-E!!! So cute, I had watched it with my cousin and my niece in France… But a movie on my own, I had re-watched the third sequel of Pirates of the Caribbean. Love the dialogue they have, especially the ones between Barbossa and Jack Sparrow. Sends me into fits of laughter.
KAMI!!! Yeah yeah yeah, no second thoughts on that, I am dying to see KAMI the movie!
Gig blogs!
July 15, 2008
Okay, enough with blogs without pictures! I’m sick of it!
Jarrod and I have created our own joint blog that blogs basically on all the gigs we’ve been to. Added pictures on each blog (all our OWN pictures, coz we go 100% indie!) and also our own recorded videos!
We also have links from each blog to another (we have two blogs).
First blog is obviously the review blog with pics and vids. The second blog is just weekly updates of local gigs around M’sia, especially KL. Flyers are posted there too. Feel free to check the blogs out!

Reasons why my school pisses me off
July 15, 2008
I had this "mini-discussion" with my mother today, and I was thinking to myself; "Oh my god, what kind of shit school am I in?"
Okay, so what la if it’s an international school, trust me people, sometimes I wish I was in a bloody local school la. Here, we have to put up with Imperialism like competing with other international schools on which ones have the better facilities, which one has better status, better MONEY. It’s always about the ka-ching, even with the stupid teachers/students and it bloody pisses me off. The canteen people are much more friendlier than half the people wearing the same uniform as I am; that’s how bad it is. Like xde duit, xleh do it. Shit.
Being in an international school doesn’t mean that the people who are managing and in charge of the school are ‘better’ than others. The way those upper head teachers act seriously make me feel like hentam-ing all of them la. Really.
Shit la, some LOCAL schools have better education, they don’t sell books sooo expensive and local people are actually more friendlier than international school kids. Seriously tau.
First story. Every bloody year we have to pay more than RM30000 to study there, and you’d think that there are more opportunities to go on trips, maybe have more books provided, more facilities. Even "better", now my school wants to increase the school fees another 10% per semester because they needed the money to build an Astro Turf on our school field. Like… WHAT THE SHIT!? They’re increasing our money leaving our pockets into theirs to build things that we already have!? I wouldn’t be as angry if they said they were going to increase the pay for teachers/janitors/technicians, because I feel that is a more worthy reason to increase the fees. But what the hell, I honestly don’t care about how ‘good’ the school looks. We already have an astro turf okay, so wtf do we need another one for? We pay like hell every year, don’t tell me they don’t have enough money to use all the money we’ve been paying instead of getting MORE. Someone shoot those stupid bloody idiots. Sure la, they provide examination papers, pay the teachers, staff, blah blah blah. But you know what?
- Every year, we pay more than RM30000, but we ALSO have to buy our school books which seem to made out of gold or something, because each book are always more than RM50-100. AND we also have to pay for every little thing we create, like as if the school is too poor to belanja the kids for once. Okay, paying for prom is normal, but recently I found out that when our school holds functions like Battle of the bands, the teacher in charge has to pay for anything that is needed from OUTSIDE of school. So basically the big bosses of our school is too damn kiasu to pay for things that don’t benefit them, and just sit on their asses to watch the show. Bloody Bourgeoises.
- Teachers who work in our school basically can keep having sex and giving birth and getting their kids into this school without having to pay a cent. That’s bloody unfair okay. WITH THAT KIND OF INJUSTICE, it is the school’s responsibility to give those who pay much more (like, us, hello?) chances to experience the school giving rather than takingtakingtaking like some greedy fatass who hasn’t had lunch in three days.
- My school suka bodek dorang yang kaya macam granddaughter YTL and sume tengku2 dari Perak, Pahang, etc etc. Not fair. NOT FAIR. It’s like, they never get expelled or suspended, or put into detention when they don’t do their homework or miss school intentionally. Just… unfair! Once again, money3.
My school is soooooo into moneymoneymoney, I just don’t respect it anymore. It’s like the people there are just pretending, faking the niceness of the school just to gain a good status. Putting up a good show for the public. Screw that.
Ironically, the BADNESS of the school pisses me off just as much. Rich, spoiled teenagers who do not appreciate things they have; materialistic numbnuts who find pleasure in creating drama and acting like bitches when they’re out at night. Okay, sure, underage everything(smoking, drinking, clubbing, etc) is considered a ‘normal teen phase’ but it seriously sickens me to see the way some people in my school act? They are just SO out of control.
-People cry because they don’t want to go home to their "uncool, unfair, bitchy" parents, they fight with bestfriends for guys, they lose their self respect and they lose themselves over tiny problems like *ahem* breakups. All frigging unnessecary DRAMA.
-Okay, I won’t mind if people actually go to clubs to actually club but some people are just so disgusting when they go to clubs and take pictures of themselves getting ‘drunk’(haha, they’re usually never drunk), holding vodka in their hands, basically saying "Oh look im super cool, im at a club, next thing you know I’m going to take pictures of me sleeping with a guy." Tak boleh tahan lagi.
-Then you get those people who, like I’ve mentioned, are super materialistic. Nice cars, nice clothes, nice phones, nice everything, but horrible personality. It’s like… moneymoneymoney.
Then when something goes wrong, they cry, oh insaf, and all that stuff, like as if they know they are wrong, and then next time they buat salah lagi. I can’t stand themmmm arghhh!
Then there are those people that just suspend and suspend students (I get so annoyed with my principals yg baru ni, they can go suck kotek and be gay). Okay, I have a few friends who are really messed up and always ponteng and all that stuff, and I don’t feel sorry for them, but honestly, I’ve seen this happen so I can personally say why my school pissed me off on this. I had a friend who came from a really bad, bad, bad family yeah. He always got beaten up by his father, his mother also kena belasah, and all that stuff, so he went to smoking, cutting himself… sometimes ade buat prkara yg illegal also, but nevermind la, don’t want to go into details. SO basically my school are always ‘watching out for him’. But what the shit? They just suspend him, put him in detention, scold him, blah blah blah. But they never ask why? They never try to help him. Noooo, they just scold, and think he’s some f*cked up boy who’s good-for-nothing, when really, he was an amazing guy who just needed some guidance and needed some help. My school didn’t do shit to help him, and in the end you know what happened? They kicked him out of my school. WTF. Not only did they never try to sit him down and get to understand WHY he was being so teruk in classes and stuff, they didn’t even give him chances. They allowed him to stay in school only to prepare themselves to kick him out again. That is not helping, that is running away irresponsibility, which is the one thing my school is very very good at doing. And they wonder why kids don’t give a shit?
So basically to make it simple, my school sucks because:-
- No money, no talk.
- You got a problem, they kick you lower.
- The students that study in my school are either too smart or too bloody stupid with perangai macam babi.
- My school runs away from responsibility. You get into trouble, they push you aside. SHIIIIIT I hate that, seriously.
Bloody hell, I can go on complaining forever but I think I’m just going to stop here. Ludah GIS, I hope you kena bom satu hari, but please wait until I dah meninggalkan dari sekolah la, I don’t want to die in GIS tanah. No thank you.
KL Jam Asia
July 12, 2008
Okay, so tonight wasn’t the best gig I’ve been to, I can start off with that. But again, it was a chance to spit out bits of random indie talent we can find stuffed in between every crack in the big mix of a Malaysian boulder. And you can always find entertainment when that happens.
So yes, this time the spitting out occurred in KL Jam Asia @ Hartamas, which I had initially gone to support ENRAI anyway.
I arrived there half an hour late, with my cousin Kenny, to meet up with Jarrod, ija, San, Mus and Dela, but I walked into a sea of black shirts and "I will eat you" expressions, choked by a sudden wave of cigarette smoke, only to realize none of my friends were in KL Jam… er… awkward. I called Jarrod (YEAH HE’S FINALLY BACK!) and he said they were in Spicy Kitchen so yes we walked all the way across the street to Spicy to have some drinks and to chill. Finally met San’s gay partner KANESH! xD hahah! And I met Dave as well as Nick, Ija’s "future brother-in-law", along with Helena (San’s Girlfriend) and later on I met FARAH, Mus’s girlfriend. Like… finally. -_-
9something pm. Went to KL Jam to check out the bands performing. We entered to a band, Human Actually, fronted by a girl, who I felt was a little too still. She didn’t move and even though I had complimented her voice to sound a little like Lan from Meet Uncle Hussain, her movements were no where near the energetic twirls and jumps he does. Pity though, that band had pretty good potential.
Next up was Deumuseth, which caused Dela pain in her ears after their performance. A hardcore death metal band, I felt they totally kicked us, despite the extremely long (and unnessecary) audio intro of some recital… Nah.. it ruined it. But that was forgotten when the singer punched in with a sharp, high scream that pierced everyone straight into the heart. A tight performance by these guys. Ija was going nuts for the guitarist (he was his ex band-member), while I was going nuts when Jarrod told me the guy at the technical booth was Faiz from Forty Winks. Heehee. Wait, I just went completely off track… Oops. xD
SO. Deumuseth, a good performance, I suppose. But once again, it was a little too much metal for one night… Probably because the amps kept screwing up and all that, and the crowd was kind of dead (I was pretty dead meself) so the atmosphere for METAL just wasn’t there.
Next up after them was Stereo Sakit. I heard a lot about them from Ija who’s close to the bassist (Hadi Lizard, ex-Komplot bassist), so I guess my expectations from them were pretty high. But they turned out to be… just alright. The music was friking nice, I have to admit but the vocalist was shadowed down by the loudness of the music, though I feel his voice could have sounded amazing.
The band members were slightly…er… well partially, probably because they were high on something, and the vocalist admitted he was keeping his pee in. The drummer just dropped his sticks and stumbled off stage after their last song which I found rather… ungraceful. haha. Yeah.
Midway through their performance, Dela had to leave, which she was so pissed about as she had wanted to stay to watch Enrai perform, but oh well, Dela, I recorded vids for you!
It was rather lucky she didn’t stay anyway, Enrai only performed at one something, and trust me my momma was pissed shitless.
After Stereo Sakit, it was time for Kujo! The name sounds cool, so what about the band? Kind of ambient/rock, sounding like they worship Radiohead (with all the vocal influences as well), they sounded rather alright. Jarrod and I got bored after a bit as the vocalist kept going "Whooo~" for the majority of their songs… Yeah. Then the vocalist tried to speak Malay which was pretty amusing for us, but we gave him support for at least trying xD HAHAHA this part of the night was funny, I turned to my left and gawped as I saw some middle aged and oldER white people standing around looking at the bands. Okay, I know you get a lot of Caucasians here but at that time in KL Jam… WHAT!?
Nick was as awed as I was. I went "They must be ex-rockers." Turns out a lady’s brother (caucasian sister, malay brother… adopted/remarried perhaps) was the drummer for Y2K. Wait was it Y2K or Kujo? Can’t really remember…
By then, my bum was sore from sitting on the ground for so long, and really, I was yawning more than I was headbanging… I guess I enjoyed the night, yeah, but it could’ve been much more energetic. I left without a sweat on my back. And that’s not good if it’s coming to gigs.
Back on the topic of Y2K, whom I have heard a lot about, they turned out to not be as WOW as I expected. It’s kind of like… expecting gold and getting bronze. Yeah. They had some funky punk music going on which kept my head moving and feet tapping, and they entertained us with their masks, but other than that, their performance didn’t blow me away like I usually want punk bands to. The vocalists were too soft (the mic’s fault), and one of them actually didn’t have a very in-tune voice either… and they just decided to put a girl up on stage to sing which I didn’t really see the point in…
Jarrod: Maybe they’re trying to up their sex appeal.
Hahahah!
Then.. then… it was… Infiltrated! Yeah! I think…? Yeah! The band before Enrai. Again they were a metal band, and that almost made me punch the floor. I mean, it’s not because they were BAD it’s just… there was just too much already! It was hilarious when they introduced their last song as "This Is Not The End" or something like that…
Them: This is our last song.. it’s called "This is not the end"…
Me: NO!
Nick: Argh….
Jarrod: O-M-G!
I think I saw some of their friends/fans glaring at us. Hey we weren’t insulting them so chillaxxx…
And finally… ENRAI!!!! A twist to the many metal bands before. Dancedancedance. But it sucked because it was so late so most of the crowd had left by then, and like Kenny said, they deserved more crowd than what we were left with.
Ija was half-drunk/exhausted by the time they were supposed to perform, so you can guess how it was. xD The music was tight, per usual, with a flare of energy coming from each of the band members, dancing, bobbing and moving around, using the stage space well. Ija was CRAZYYY, he was everywhere, but he seemed to have exert so much energy in his first song, he had no breath for the last three. But he pulled it off with a good performance, though in the end, I have to admit I didn’t feel like the wait from 9pm to 1am was 100% worth it… maybe 70%.
My camera died halfway through recording Wrong, but I did manage to record the full version of Realiti Fantasia, which I’m happy for.
Overall, an OK night, it could’ve been much much better. But the bands that performed weren’t BAD, they were actually all good in their own ways, but maybe with better amps, better crowds and better atmosphere… they can kick ass. Yeah. And less booze, Ija. xD
