Moshpits

October 30, 2008

It’s starting to worry me and make me ponder with frustration that I will never feel happy going into a moshpit again. It’s because every time I start moshing, I immediately get put off by these new ‘hardcore moshers’ who think they are the king of moshers. They think punching, kicking and whatever kungfu stunts they pull is moshing. Well, bros, I’m sorry to prove you wrong but… you’re wrong!

It’s not because I got hit in the eye, that was nothing, but honestly, what’s moshing becoming? People have turned what was once spontaneous movements to vent emotions into something that intentionally hurts people. That’s just sick. Moshing isn’t about hurting, moshing is about elation. It’s about enjoying, not worrying that any second someone’s foot is going to get in contact with your neck. Plus, how do you make flailing your arms and legs around look anything less than retarded? Honestly.

If you get hurt by accident in a moshpit, that’s normal, because the movement sometimes can impact hugely on your body, causing you to fall, get stepped on, or your shoe might come off. Whatever. But in between all these, people watch out for you, they pick you up when you fall, they make sure no one tramples on you when you’re lying on the floor. That sort of thing.

But now? We get people purposely hitting, punching, kicking each other, taking up MASSIVE space in the moshpit, and doing some ridiculous ninja routine. Come on. Stop being so inconsiderate guys. It’s obvious that this “hardcore” shit is being hated by loads of people, especially those from the old rock gods’ times. You want them to look at our generation and go “What bullshit has rock n roll become?” Seriously. This isn’t a Bruce Lee competition. This is a concert. Keep it real.

For music’s sake, and for all of ours.
